Mini shrimp tank

I know some of you out there is going to think that this is cruel...

But then again, I really wish Dear could enjoy the fun by putting this in the office...

>_<;;

Still, it was fun to setup and now waiting to see how the shrimp react with the oxygen level.
If it doesn't work out, perhaps will add an airstone to the setup.

Pardon the messy background.. >_<;;

Snow white Shrimps

Again, it's Dear's favourite thing to go into my tank.. they are pretty too! Not very white though.. seems a little golden..? Not sure about CRS stuffs.. >_<;;

New setup of shrimp tank

Here's the revamped look of the tank.

Not as cool as the previous setup as I decided to keep it simple and clean to
1. counter outbreaks of whatever
2. become a simple breeder tank

Still, I love this simple look of the new setup! :D

Mini Pelia on wood in the middle, hair grass at the back, unknown plant on wood from Seaview, HC in the pod up there, 2 frog's bits floating.

Purposely keep the soil thin this time since I am not planting so heavily like previously, and easy to vacumm if needed.
Currently holding some snow white and cherries in there!

Can't wait to fill this with shrimps from Japan!
Oh ya, might seperate this tank into 2 if I am getting shrimps that will crossbreed... >_<;;

Trip to Seaview

Been crazy over moss recently especially Mini Pelia! Also, seaching high and low for Java moss but surprisingly, a lot places don't have! Silly Dear and me happily went to C328 (From Punggol to Clementi) and shocked to recall that they aren't open on Sundays! *Bangs wall*

Couldn't get all the moss I want to setup my shrimp tank after I tear it down as I wasn't able to cure the planaria problem.

Google hard on Monday and found Seaview to be a great place and near my place that is big and sells a lot stuffs! Including a good range of plants! Yeah!

Grab Dear to deliver me down there and had a short and great time there.. (they closes at 7pm, I reached around 6pm+)

Stuffs I got there:

- Double swordtail fish Male! (Dear's dream fish for it's beautiful fins)
- Mini Pelia! :D
- Java Moss
- erm, a plant on a wood. lol, don't know it's name
- a small piece of wood

Here's my pretty boy!
He's a super shy boy! Scare the shit outta us when he started sinking to the bottom of the quarantine tank. Luckily as what we found on the web, it's due to stress and shock that made him stay close to the ground.
Before I went to bed, he was already swimming around!

DIY Java moss "holder"

Due to lack of ground space, and also not wanting to cover any rocks or wood with java moss like what usual scapist do, I came up with this thing!

Here's how I did this:

1. Support clip for holding the glass used to cover the tank
2. Acrylic cut to the length you wish you moss to stay away from the glass (from artfriend)
3. Acrylic rod (from artfriend)
4. Acrylic solvent (from artfriend)
5. Cutter for acrylic
6. Saw
7. Sand paper (super rough)

First, saw the piece of acrylic rod to the length you need and cut the acrylic sheet to the length you wish the rod to be placed.

Glue the acrylic sheet to the support clip and the rod  to the acrylic piece. Wait for it to dry.

Tie your favourite moss and you are done!

Hate Planaria

Been treating since 15 sept, it's 19 today and what? Control in 72hrs? BS despite the good reviews. Been overdosing alot and remove animals from the tank in case the overdosing harms them.. Still, planarias are all over! Didn't even feed much!

Btw, I just tried linking this blog feed to twitter and facebook! Hope it works! ;)

Japanese breeder

I am so inspired by this photo.. But I can only remain inspired due to space constraint. Sigh...

Take some time to look through this blog, though it's Japanese, it's rather inspiring to see the photos she posted. Ya, a she.. And husband is helping her with most DIY stuffs.

Fishy Fishy

Random fish post... My current fish tank...

My most greedy guppy... It's the only baby from my old guppy that is currently resting in heaven..
It's not pregnant. It's fat.. FAT. Grabbing the green pea and have it all to itself... I need to read up on how to slim down my guppy... X_X;;

My latest fish.. Badis Badis or Darios Darios... First time fed it with brine shrimp baby.. they love it! :D Oh yea, my DIY brine shrimp hatchery was a success! So easy to get the hatched baby from the bottom out from the balloon stick and drain them on a brine shrimp net. Will try to make another tutorial for it soon.. I hope... :P

Lastly, my snails orgy caught in action!

Shrimps photos

Some random photos of my shrimps... ;)

An odd looking Cherry Shrimp that came in a big packet.. It was meant to be a cleaning crew in the fish tank but it got berried! Despite the tank remain a 28-31°C Most of the time. However, this odd looking mama seems to be dead.. haven't been seeing her.. and quite a few berried shrimps died in this fish tank and I wonder why..

Here's a photo of the first baby shrimp I spotted that was breed in my tank! :D

Shrimp Baby grew up! :D

Shrimps in fish tank fighting for boiled deshelled pea!

One super red shrimp mama.. :D Looks like little lobster!

No.. they aren't mating.. just fighting for food.. :P

DIY brine shrimp hatchery!

Just created this in an hour ago..

Items required:
- 2 big soda bottle, best without much groove so that the brine shrimp doesn't get stuck on the grooves
- 1 balloon stick (hollow ones)
- 1 2way connector
- air tube
- drilling tool

First, take 1 soda bottle and cut the top away to act as a stand for 2nd bottle as the 2nd bottle will be upside down.

Take the 2nd bottle and drill 2 holes, one preferably by the middle, in order to insert the balloon stick and keeping it straight. 1 could be by the side or on the bottom too.. But since I was drilling via manual drilling, I choose to drill the 2nd hole by the side as it is much thinner and easier.

Then insert the balloon stick and push it all the way in and touch the bottle cap. This is to ensure that the bubbles reaches the bottom and create movements for the brine shrimp egg.

Insert the 2way connector at the 2nd hole. You can choose to seal them but since I had it quite fitting, I am skipping the sealing part.

To use this hatchery, fill the bottle with the salt solution and brine shrimp egg, connect the airtube on the balloon stick and watch it bubbles!

When harvesting, unhook the airtube from the balloon stick and connect it on the 2way connector and watch the hatched brine shrimp being pushed out from the balloon stick. Of course, you have to add a tube to the balloon stick and collect the shrimps via a coffee filter bag so you could rinse your shrimps and feed them to your fishes!

Pardon for the lack of step by step photos. Forgot to take them when doing it. Will update with more photos if there's a need or if I am going to do another one.

New fishes! Dwarf Badis Badis (Darios Darios)

Bought these cute little fellow on 7th Sept from Wu Hu Aqaurium! They are like such a cute tiny little shy fellows with wonderful colour.. In quarantine now..

But, to find out that they don't appreciate flake food. _| ̄|○||||

Therefore.. I need to hatch brine shrimps again.. Haven't been hatching them for quite some time.. Guess the fishes in my main tank will get to benefit too!

New Shrimp tank!

Yesssssss!! I upgraded my shrimp tank!! *throws coffetti~*
Bought this tank on 17/09/2012, set it up on 18/09/2012~ Currently cycling with 2 snails... ^^;; Temporary set it up at dinning table, waiting it to finish cycle and move it to join the other tanks...

From C328
- Tank (40cm X 25cm X 26cm)
- Aquazonic T5 light 40cm
- HC, Java moss
- Gex Water plant Soil (sand powder type) 2kg X 2
- Gex Pure Soil Black 800g X 1 (to place on the top layer
- Mosura BT-9
- Spider wood (didn't sink, so I tied it to a bag of small gravels from my fish tank)

From Y618
- 5 pots of plants
- Rocks
- Drop checker X 2 (shrimp and fish tank)
- Thermometer X 1

From PetMart (Serangoon North)
- Mosura Old sea mud (both C328 and Y618 ran out.. >_<;;)

Recycles
- Hang on filter from my deserted small fish tank (Ocean Free) (Covered with stocking to prevent shrimps being sucked in)
- Internal filter from my very first fish tank set that I bought from Serangoon North (Covered with stocking to prevent shrimps being sucked in)

DIY
- 2 bottles of CO2, 1 is small bottle, 1 is 1.5 litre bottle

Picked up a CO2 drop checker and a new thermometer to go along.. Decided to get a thermometer that has a long wire so I can keep track of the temperature below and not the surface which is likely to be affected by the heat from the light.

CO2 drop checker is used to monitor the amount of CO2 in your tank and warns you if it's too much before your livestock gets suffocated by it.. :P Currently it's bright yellow (too much CO2) in my tank but who cares? Since I have no livestock, the plants will enjoy them!

Set up most of the thing myself but all the heavy duties of washing the tank and splitting the plants from the pot is all helped by my little helper here, thanks Dear! :D Dear helping me tto pluck in HC as my hands are at their limit again.. :( Stupid nerve, faster recover! :(
The cloudy tank after all done...

Current tank after 2 days of settling..
ugly CO2 air tubes that are temporary until I steals the CO2 diffuser from the old shrimp tank...

Most likely waiting for Blue Aura shrimps or Blue tiger Golden eye shrimp~! Or something blue shrimp... ^^;; also, will be hosting whatever shrimps which I might bring back from Japan in my October trip!

Also, I love scaping new tanks! I wish I can just scape tanks all day long... hahahaha.. :D

Current aquarium

Been neglecting my tank quite a bit due to arm injury.. Fingers are not very flexible as before neither is the strength. :( Hopefully will recover to a healthy state! ;)

Took some photos of my current tank stats.. Enjoy!~

My main fish tank... pardon the ugly placement of CO2 setup due to poor water circulation by the hangon filter... Thinking of getting a canister in my next upgrade... Hmm... That position is the best place to disperse the CO2 bubbles... Currently housing my ancestor Glass blood fin, ancestor Corydora Sterbai, 1 guppy female that was from LFS.. but it got sick after awhile and developed a bend spine. Been quarantine her for a few months and she seems to totally recovered from unknown disease! :D Just moved her in along with a wild guppy that was a lousy pick from a farm (when I was a novice) with bend spine and my 1 and only baby female guppy from which it's mum had died very long ago.. It's a Nun nursery now as all is female guppy.. lol With lotsa shrimps inside too!

Bend spine wild guppy and the once sick female guppy

Glass bloodfin and Corydora Sterbai

My Shrimp tank...

My soon to be removed fish tank.. housing some not very well tetras and a blue lamp eye... :( seems a little swimming problem...

Quarantine tanks of fishes that I just got from Wu Hu Aquarium! Ben is really a nice and warm guy! ;)

Some of my MTS that I picked out from my shrimp tank... :P I think I am not going to add them in my next upgraded shrimp tank... not going to introduce any pest snails inside anymore...

That's all for now!
